Warley in Bloom
In 2010 we were awarded SILVER in the small village catagory of Yorkshire in Bloom. In 2012 we are turning our attention to a different angle of improving the village - planting fruit trees and bushes in the village centre for the benefit of the whole community. We organised a very successful Warley Open Gardens Event in 2011 and we are repeating it in 2012.
Local History
Please bring along old pictures of the village you may have to our monthly meetings - see 'Events' on home page for next meeting date.
In 2010 the group produced a video film recording older residents memories of the area together with a book which featured many old and previously unseen photographs. Collecting the photographs also led to mounting exhibitions in 2011 and 2012 at Warley Town School which were a huge success.
Projects background
Our first venture into community events was the Mayfest celebration in 2009. We were delighted by the response and heartened to hear that it was considered a resounding success by Calderdale Community officers too.
Our next event was a coffee morning held to gather information about residents wishes. This feedback meeting highlighted which leisure time interests, residents were most keen to develop and this has resulted in us prioritising our Warley in Bloom project and developing projects involving local history. There were many other suggestions some of which will undoubtedly form the basis of future projects.
One request which stood out above all others was the need to provide a venue for the community to come together. Community facilities are now at an all-time low. For young and old, living in this widely scattered area can be a very isolating experience, even in the centre of the village. During 2012 we will be doing our upmost to ensure that all parts of the community benefit.
